Hi, I’m Tabi!

Maibara is a city in Shiga. Explore historic-road and waterside landscapes at Samegai’s Jizō River and the Kashiwabara-juku History Museum. Visit the two post towns separately; older photos do not show current blooms or facility conditions.

This guide covers places within Maibara, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

Samegai-juku and Jizō River

醒井宿と地蔵川

Explore an old Nakasendō post town beside a clear stream. The photo shows the Jizō River in May 2023 and does not guarantee current water-crowfoot blooms. Stay out of the water, leave plants undisturbed and respect residents’ living spaces.

Kashiwabara-juku History Museum

柏原宿歴史館

A museum introducing the history and culture of the post town and surrounding area. The photo shows its exterior in 2021. Check Monday and holiday-related closure rules; drivers should use the B&G Santō Marine Center parking area indicated by the city.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

City guidance introduces yaito udon at the history museum café, a name inspired by the area’s association with moxa. It does not imply eating medicinal moxa. Check actual ingredients and the current menu with the facility.
