Hi, I’m Tabi!
Kunitachi in Tokyo’s Tama area combines a former station, tree-lined avenue and shrine. Begin south of JR Kunitachi station, planning separate transport for Yabo Tenmangu farther south.
This guide covers places within Kunitachi, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Former Kunitachi Station Building
旧国立駅舎
A visitor-information and exhibition space restored in 2020 from the former 1926 station building. It is separate from the working rail station. The photo shows its restored exterior in 2021; check current displays.
Getting there Approach from JR Kunitachi station’s south exit
A shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. The photograph dates from 2002 and may differ from current facilities. Distinguish the shrine name Yabo from nearby JR Yaho station, and respect worship spaces.
Getting there Check the shrine approach from JR Nambu Line Yaho station
A tree-lined avenue running south from Kunitachi station. Cherry and ginkgo trees change with the seasons. Use public sidewalks and check access before entering university grounds.
Getting there Follow the avenue’s sidewalks from south of Kunitachi station
The city’s specialty guide features Tamagawa pears. Check seasonal varieties, selling dates and storage at farm shops, keeping out of working orchards without permission.
Try south of Kunitachi station → the former station → University Avenue’s sidewalks. Check exhibition access and pause among trees. Plan a separate shrine outing via Yaho station or current buses.
