Hi, I’m Tabi!
Utsunomiya offers a castle site, a city shrine and Oya stone heritage. Begin in one central area, plan the underground quarry separately, and consider a gyoza meal.
This guide covers places within Utsunomiya, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

A first-visit stop
Utsunomiya Castle Ruins Park
宇都宮城址公園
A castle-site park with reconstructed earthworks and turrets. It offers an introduction to local history rather than a complete surviving original castle.
Getting there Check the park approach from Tobu Utsunomiya station
A shrine on a central city hill. Respect worship routes and allow for steps; the photo shows its worship hall. This is Utsunomiya’s shrine, distinct from the similarly named shrine in Nikko.
Getting there Check the shrine entrance on Baba-dori
Explore the history of underground Oya stone quarrying. Prepare for stairs and cool indoor conditions; it is separate from a central city walking itinerary.
Getting there Check transport toward Oya and your return connection
A dish example from 2015; not a shop endorsement or a guarantee of current menus or prices.
Gyoza is a signature Utsunomiya food, served pan-fried, boiled or fried. The 2015 city photograph shows boiled gyoza, not pan-fried dumplings. Check ingredients, allergens and current menus at the shop.
Try Tobu Utsunomiya station → Castle Ruins Park. Pause in the park and consider the central shrine separately; Oya History Museum requires a different transport plan.
