Hi, I’m Tabi!

Explore the rocky Oninoshitaburui gorge and the history of tatara ironmaking in Okuizumo. A nature walk and a museum visit are separate outings; check transport between them and current path access.

This guide covers places within Okuizumo, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

01 · EXPLORE

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

A first-visit stop

Oninoshitaburui Gorge

鬼の舌震

The image shows large gorge boulders and flowing water, not a route for scrambling over rocks or entering the stream. Use designated paths, check rockfall and access notices, and take care on wet surfaces.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02

A first-visit stop

Okuizumo Tatara Sword Museum

奥出雲たたらと刀剣館

This museum covers tatara ironmaking and sword history. The gorge image above does not show the museum. Forging demonstrations are not necessarily continuous; check their current schedule and admission arrangements.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Izumo soba is described as using buckwheat milled with its outer layers for color and aroma, rather than a dish exclusive to Okuizumo. Check buckwheat, wheat, broth ingredients and noodle composition with the restaurant.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Try the first destination’s permitted entrance → public areas. Choose the other stop after checking separate transport and access.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check entry arrangements and return transport first.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
