Hi, I’m Tabi!

Kawagoe offers traditional shop streets, a bell tower and a candy lane. Begin around the warehouse-style streets; one shop and a small snack can make a pleasant first outing.

This guide covers places within Kawagoe, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

01 · EXPLORE

Three places to begin

Three places with different atmospheres. Start with the one that appeals to you instead of visiting them all.

A first-visit stop

Warehouse-style streets

蔵造りの町並み

Traditional thick-walled shop buildings preserve the look of an old trading town. Some still house shops. Stay within pedestrian space on streets used by traffic.

Toki no Kane Bell Tower and the surrounding street02

A first-visit stop

Toki no Kane Bell Tower

時の鐘

A landmark bell tower rising above the old streets. View it from the street and browse nearby shops. The present tower was rebuilt after fire rather than surviving unchanged from its first construction.

03

A first-visit stop

Kashiya Yokocho Candy Lane

菓子屋横丁

A lane of shops selling traditional candies and sweets. Browse or choose a small snack, checking each shop’s opening days and ingredients and keeping the passage clear.

Getting there
Approach the Motomachi 2-chome area

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Sweet potatoes grown in the area and sweet-potato treats are associated with Kawagoe. Look for a snack and check ingredients, allergens and prices; not every product necessarily uses Kawagoe-grown potatoes.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Try the warehouse-style streets → Toki no Kane → Candy Lane. Choose stops along the old shopping streets, shortening the walk if it is crowded.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Stay within pedestrian space where traffic passes.
  • Check shop closures and guidance on where to eat.
  • Photos show historical views rather than conditions on your visit date.
