Hi, I’m Tabi!

Uonuma is a city of mountains and farmland in Niigata. This guide covers Uonuma City, distinct from Minamiuonuma. Begin with one of two temples known for their wood carvings.

This guide covers places within Uonuma, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

A first-visit stop

Saifukuji Kaizando

西福寺(開山堂)

This temple in Oura preserves carvings by Ishikawa Uncho in its Kaizando hall. The main photo shows the temple exterior in 2017. Some winter visits require advance booking; check current admission and indoor photography rules.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02

A first-visit stop

Eirinji Temple

永林寺

A separate temple in Negoya, with painted wood carvings by Uncho in the main hall. Check visiting times and winter closures with the temple, and plan transport separately from Saifukuji.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

The tourism association lists Uonuma Koshihikari rice and mushrooms among seasonal goods at a shop near Saifukuji. The Uonuma origin label may cover a wider area than this city. Check the stated origin and current stock when choosing rice or souvenirs.

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check entry arrangements and return transport first.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
