Hi, I’m Tabi!

Tainai is a city in Niigata. Learn about local memory at Echigo Tainai Kannon and nature at Tainai Insect Museum. The hero image shows the Tainai River and hotel surroundings in 2021 rather than the insect facility. Check facility access and road conditions separately.

This guide covers places within Tainai, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Echigo Tainai Kannon

越後胎内観音

A Kannon statue erected in memory of victims of the Uetsu flood, with wishes for recovery and peace. The photograph dates from October 2025. Respect interpretation of the disaster and site guidance, and check current access.

02

A first-visit stop

Tainai Insect Museum

胎内昆虫の家

A municipal facility with insect exhibits and seasonal facilities. The city documents winter closure and the end of its 2026 observation events, which are not presented as events currently available to join. A decorative name panel is used because a suitable photograph was unavailable.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

The city features regional dishes and sweets using rice flour. Check each product’s ingredient origins, recipe, use of other ingredients such as wheat and allergen labeling. Rice flour in every product is not assumed to be Tainai-grown or used in one recipe.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check the tourism association’s road-closure notices for Oku-Tainai and Tainai River Dam, and current guidance for other roads.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
