Hi, I’m Tabi!
Mountain-side Unzen Onsen and coastal Obama Onsen are distinct spa areas within the same city. Allow travel time between them and keep clear of hot vents and steam.
This guide covers places within Unzen, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Unzen Jigoku
雲仙地獄
A geothermal area characterised by hot vents and a sulphurous smell. The photograph is recorded as December 2009 and shows steam and rocks. Stay on maintained viewing paths and obey barriers. The official guide notes no night lighting; visit in daylight and leave if you feel unwell.

A coastal spa town beside Tachibana Bay, distinct from mountain-side Unzen Onsen. The July 2026 photograph shows the town and coastal foreground, not the inside of a footbath. Consult Hot Foot 105’s listing separately for facility hours and closures. Source-water temperature is not the temperature of footbath water.

Local guides feature eggs steamed using Unzen Jigoku’s geothermal heat. Check sales hours, sell-outs and weather closures. Consider egg allergies and accompaniments, and never attempt cooking at a vent yourself.
