Hi, I’m Tabi!
Visit two castle ruins in southern Shimabara Peninsula, Nagasaki. Distinguish Hara, a World Heritage component, from the separate historic site of Hinoe.
This guide covers places within Minamishimabara, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Hara Castle Ruins
原城跡
Associated with the Shimabara–Amakusa Rebellion beginning in 1637, Hara has no surviving castle keep. This October 2012 photograph shows the sea and stone markers viewed from the site. Official guidance reports the Route 251 parking area closed for centre construction. Check alternative parking and approaches, and expect uneven paths and steps.

A separate castle site in Kitaarima with surviving stonework. Unlike Hara, it is not a current component of the World Heritage property. The photograph shows stonework in September 2015. Do not confuse it with Shimabara Castle in Shimabara City; check restrictions and take care on grass and stone steps.

Shimabara hand-stretched somen is a wheat noodle made through resting and stretching stages. Hot or cold preparations depend on the shop. Check wheat, soy and fish or meat in broths, and inquire separately about workshop visits.
