Hi, I’m Tabi!

Explore Ueda through its castle park and an old highway street, with traces of different periods along the way.

This guide covers places within Ueda, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

A first-visit stop

Ueda Castle Park

上田城跡公園

Founded by Sanada Masayuki in 1583, the castle later underwent destruction and rebuilding. The surviving structures do not all date from its foundation. This April 2007 photograph shows the moat, cherry blossoms and a turret. Check current closures separately for the park, turrets and museum.

Getting there

Yanagimachi street in Ueda in April 201902

A first-visit stop

Yanagimachi

北国街道柳町

Walk past buildings and shopfronts along the former Hokkoku highway. The April 2019 photograph does not confirm which shops operate today. Keep entrances and residential access clear, and ask before taking photographs inside.

Getting there

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Ueda’s oidare yakitori pairs skewered chicken with a garlic and soy sauce dressing. Check individual menus, opening days, meat and wheat or soy ingredients before ordering.
