Hi, I’m Tabi!

Explore the woodland around Shirakoma Pond and Yachiho Highland Nature Park. Shirakoma Pond lies near the boundary with Koumi; access conditions vary between approaches and areas.

This guide covers places within Sakuho, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

A first-visit stop

Shirakoma Pond · Moss Forest

白駒の池・苔の森

Observe this forest lake above 2,100 metres and its mosses from designated paths. The photograph shows autumn colours in October 2011, not current conditions. Prepare for wet footing and cold, and check seasonal Route 299 restrictions, parking and buses.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02

A first-visit stop

Yachiho Highland Nature Park

八千穂高原自然園

Walk among birches and small waterfalls in this nature park, a separate stop from Shirakoma Pond. Flowers and foliage vary by season; confirm the opening period, admission and transport in current notices.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Look for Sakuho’s fresh plums sold as prunes, or processed products, at Minasaku Marché Bloomin. Fresh-fruit harvest and sales periods vary by variety and year. Do not assume fresh fruit is still available; check stock and processed-product ingredients.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Try the first destination’s permitted entrance → public areas. Choose the other stop after checking separate transport and access.

Check directions

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check entry arrangements and return transport first.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
