Hi, I’m Tabi!

A mountain village with valleys and ancient rock-shelter stories. Treat the waterfall and village museum as separate outings, exploring both landscape and human history.

This guide covers places within Kitaaiki, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

01 · EXPLORE

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

A first-visit stop

Ozen Falls

大禅の滝

One of the Mitaki waterfalls, known for its large winter ice column. The photo dates to February 2011, rather than autumn or this year’s freezing conditions. Check current mountain-path access and surfaces; in snow or ice, assess equipment and access before attempting a visit.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02

A first-visit stop

Kitaaiki Village Archaeological Museum

北相木村考古博物館

Explore early Jomon life through finds from the Tochibara rock shelter and other local archaeology. A museum visit is different from entering the archaeological site itself. Confirm current exhibitions, opening days and admission arrangements with the village before travelling.

Getting there

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Highland vegetables form part of Kitaaiki’s farming. If you find village-grown produce at a local outlet, check its origin and season. This does not promise specific crops or a permanent village farm shop; identify a seller first and consider storage during your journey.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Try the first destination’s permitted entrance → public areas. Choose the other stop after checking separate transport and access.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check entry arrangements and return transport first.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
