Hi, I’m Tabi!

Explore a former castle site and traces of a castle town in Miyazaki. Start with the view from Maizuru Park, then discover historic streets and Takanabe’s gyoza culture.

This guide covers places within Takanabe, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

A first-visit stop

Maizuru Park

舞鶴公園

Stone walls survive at the former Takanabe Castle site. The photograph is a 2010 view of the town from the park, rather than a castle building or today’s skyline. Allow for slopes and steps, and use open visitor paths.

Getting there

A first-visit stop

Castle-town walking route

城下町の散策路

The town’s suggested route links the park area with a former senior retainer’s residence, samurai-house streets and the castle moat. It does not guarantee entry into individual buildings. Respect homes and private property while following public streets.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Takanabe has a long-established gyoza culture. Use the official tourism guide to find a shop and ask about cooking styles and takeaway options. Meat, wheat and other ingredients vary; explain dietary needs and follow storage and reheating directions for takeaway products.
