Hi, I’m Tabi!

This is Kumano City in southern Mie, distinct from other places sharing the Kumano name. Check destination-specific buses and approaches from JR Kisei Line Kumanoshi Station. Choose either coastal stop to suit weather and waves.

This guide covers places within Kumano, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

01 · EXPLORE

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

Rock wall, sea and walkway at Onigajo in May 200901

A first-visit stop

Onigajo

鬼ヶ城

Coastal rock walls shaped by uplift and wave erosion. The May 2009 photograph shows rock, sea and walkway. Check waves, weather and local restrictions; do not assume the entire coastal path is always open.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

Shishiiwa, Shichirimihama and distant Onigajo in January 200802

A first-visit stop

Shishiiwa Lion Rock

獅子岩

A rock resembling a lion facing the sea. The January 2008 photograph shows it with Shichirimihama beach and distant Onigajo. Stay off the rock and away from areas reached by waves.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

The tourism association features sanma sushi, made with Pacific saury, as a local Kumano dish. Check fish, bones, seasonings and allergens and ask individual shops about availability.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Choose currently open sections at Onigajo. Avoid high waves and restricted areas and plan separate access and return transport for Shishiiwa.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check entry arrangements and return transport first.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
