Hi, I’m Tabi!

Kyoto has enough sights to make a first visit feel busy. Choose the atmosphere that interests you most—castle, market or shrine—and begin with one area.

This guide covers places within Kyoto City, not the entire prefecture or province, or places immediately beside your app check-in.

01 · EXPLORE

Three places to begin

Three places with different atmospheres. Start with the one that appeals to you instead of visiting them all.

Nijo-jo Castle

This castle served as the Tokugawa shoguns’ Kyoto residence. Explore its moat, gates and gardens at your own pace; check admission conditions for individual buildings.

A first local view

Fushimi Inari Taisha

伏見稲荷大社

A shrine known for its paths of vermilion torii gates. You do not need to complete a mountain walk; turn back according to your energy.

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Look for obanzai, Kyoto’s everyday side dishes, or Japanese sweets. You do not need to start with an elaborate set meal. Check menus, prices and allergens before choosing.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Tabi suggests Shijo Station → Nishiki Market for a first walk and a pause nearby. Visit Nijo-jo and Fushimi Inari separately and check public transport routes.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check closing days, admission and accessible areas before leaving.
  • Leave room for others when stopping or taking photos.
  • One place is enough; plan around the weather and your energy.
