Hi, I’m Tabi!

In Kochi’s Hidaka Village, discover an old shrine and a limestone cave, distinct from the similarly named area in Hokkaido. Begin with a shrine visit; Saruda Cave exploration is a separate activity requiring advance contact, equipment and companions.

This guide covers places within Hidaka, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Two places to begin

Two different places: start with whichever interests you.

Omura Shrine worship hall and trees in December 202001

A first-visit stop

Omura Shrine

小村神社

Visit the tree-lined grounds and worship hall, pictured in December 2020. The shrine’s National Treasure sword is not on permanent public display; contact the shrine about viewing dates if that is your main purpose.

Getting there
Check the current approach and return transport on the map.

02

A first-visit stop

Saruda Cave

猿田洞

A limestone cave with natural terrain, rather than an ordinary sightseeing walkway. Official guidance requires contacting the education board before entry, bringing a helmet, gloves, torch and nonslip shoes, and never entering alone. First-time visitors can ask the tourist association about a guided experience.

Getting there

02 · A LITTLE BITE

What could you try?

Hidaka’s Omurice Highway promises village tomatoes, using tomato-purée sauce when fresh tomatoes are unavailable. Menus differ between restaurants; check opening days and ingredients such as eggs before choosing.

03 · YOUR FIRST WALK

Keep your first walk simple

Try the first destination’s permitted entrance → public areas. Choose the other stop after checking separate transport and access.

Check the walking route

Check actual distances and travel times on the map. This suggested walk is separate from your app movement record.

Before you set off

  • Check entry arrangements and return transport first.
  • Choose one stop to suit weather, slopes and local restrictions.
  • Respect private areas and photography rules; check food ingredients locally.
