Hi, I’m Tabi!
Discover two different sides of Semboku at Kakunodate’s samurai district and Lake Tazawa. These are separate areas, not one continuous walking route. The street photograph dates to November 2016 and the lake to May 2021; neither establishes current autumn colour.
This guide covers places within Semboku, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Kakunodate Samurai District
角館武家屋敷通り
Explore the atmosphere of samurai residences along a street lined with dark fences and trees. Do not expect the November 2016 foliage photograph to match an October visit. Opening periods and charges vary by house; respect private boundaries and the street’s smoking and littering rules.
Getting there Check the current approach and return transport on the map.
Enjoy the lake and mountains from an open lakeside area. The May 2021 photograph shows the shore, not a particular bathing area or the Tatsuko statue. Check transport from Kakunodate, weather, bear alerts and local restrictions, and plan to view the lake without entering the water.

Yama-no-imo nabe is a Lake Tazawa area hot pot made with dumplings of grated, sticky yam. Broth seasoning and meat vary by inn and cook, including soy or miso versions. Check where it is served and whether a reservation is needed rather than expecting one fixed recipe.
Resized, metadata removed and converted to WebP; display crops vary by screen. Adapted CC BY-SA photos retain the original license.
