Hi, I’m Tabi!
Kamisunagawa in Hokkaido’s Sorachi region offers mining and railway history. Plan separate visits to the former station and shaft. Distinguish it from neighboring Sunagawa city and do not use closed railway names as current transport.
This guide covers places within Kamisunagawa, rather than places immediately beside your app check-in.

Former Kami-Sunagawa Station
旧 上砂川駅(悲別駅)
A preserved station and display space also known as the drama’s Kanashibetsu Station. The exterior photo dates to 2006. It is a closed-line heritage site, rather than a place to board passenger trains.
Getting there Check current road or bus connections from the Sunagawa Station area and the preserved station entrance; passenger trains do not run to the old station.
A mining structure later reused for underground microgravity experiments; that experimental facility also closed. The 2006 exterior photo does not imply an operating experience. Check permitted areas for exterior viewing.
Getting there Check the shaft’s location and permitted exterior viewing points on town maps. Do not enter the closed experimental facility, work areas or private land without authorization.
Hokkaido Sorachi’s official product guide introduces Kamisunagawa smoked rainbow trout. Check actual origin, fish allergens, storage and availability; no vendor recommendation, seasonal stock or price is guaranteed.
Resized, metadata removed and converted to WebP; display crops vary by screen. Adapted CC BY-SA photos retain the original license.
Photos are historical material dated in the credits, not a guarantee of present scenery or operation. Places without photos use decorative name panels.
